ABOUT US:

Located just north of the four corners in Ennismore, Ontario, this family farm provides the perfect setting for original, musical and comedic light-hearted summer theatre. Some of the area’s finest performers have graced the stage of the Homestead Theatre since its inaugural 2010 summer production. Set in a century-old barn, audiences are treated to a rural and intimate setting complete with comfortable theatre seating, stage lighting and 100 acres of fields, horses and summer sun as the theatre’s natural backdrop.

OUR MISSION:

The Ennismore Homestead Theatre is a not-for-profit organization that strives to promote arts in the community. It is the Homestead’s goal to present original musical and non-musical works; provide educational opportunities for youth through drama, dance, music, visual and other artistic mediums; feature and promote new and emerging artists; and create a local arts experience which is both professional and enriching for its patrons.

OUR HISTORY:

For Paul Crough, the idea of bringing summer theatre to Ennismore was a long time in the making. After speaking to his brother-in-law Todd Willis and his sister Kendra Willis in the autumn of 2009 about the idea, they all agreed that the vacant barn on their property presented the perfect venue. As Paul and Kendra’s original family farm and now the Willis homestead a generation later, they knew it could meet the needs of the intimate theatre experience they were seeking.

With an army of family and community volunteers, the space was cleaned, reorganized and rearranged to accommodate theatre seating, lighting, a common lounge and a backstage area for cast and crew.
Gathering a cast of local, stellar performers provided an opportunity to create and workshop an original script and score for the Homestead’s inaugural season. On August 5, 2010 the premiere production of “Plumville” was presented to a sold-out crowd. An extended sold-out run of “The 24th of August” in the summer of 2011 reinforced the fact that there was both a need and an obvious interest in summer theatre for Ennismore!
